SPECIALTIES

Ruby specializes in a naturalist/scientific illustrative style. Although she prefers working in black and grey dotwork, she also enjoys doing the occasional color piece.

As a huge advocate for mental health, Ruby is extremely passionate about and proficient in taking on scar cover-ups. To help raise awareness year-round, Ruby's Survivor Project: Out of the Darkness was born. A monthly raffle offering one free tattoo or scar cover-up to survivors of self-harm, abuse, assault, and violence. For more information about the project, click here.

Ruby is not currently taking on cover-ups unless they are either part of her Survivor Project or for an abuse survivor. Please be sure to link clear photos of the current tattoo as well as your new tattoo concept (flexibility is a must) when submitting your Request Form.

CONCEPTs

Ruby is looking to tattoo pieces that inspire her creatively and contribute to a strong artistic portfolio. She strives to create beautiful, meaningful work for each of her clients and appreciates a measure of artistic freedom that will allow her to do so.
She is interested in creating unique pieces that include (but aren't limited to) the following subjects:
unique flowers or botanical arrangements, pieces telling a story preferably including subject matter such as bugs, fruit, vegetables, animals, skulls, lady faces, surreal collages, astronomy, oddities, anything creepy, spooky or macabre.

Experience

Ruby prides herself in providing a unique and unforgettable day for each client that is far from a traditional tattoo experience, even during a pandemic. To accomplish this, there are a few things that we do a little differently and a few things that we ask of each client.

  • All artwork is done the day of your appointment and will be reviewed together in person at your first appointment, therefore drawings will not be sent or seen ahead of your appointment.
Because of this, we strongly encourage an open minded approach coupled with as much reference material and detail as possible, (and scheduling a consultation if you're really nervous) so that Ruby can bring your vision to life. Please keep in mind that this approach isn't for everyone, but is the secret ingredient to allowing Ruby to create a truly beautiful and unique piece for you.
  • That being said, it is important for clients to understand that the reference material they are providing is to only be used as a guide to direct Ruby visually. Ruby does not copy other artist's work. All pieces drawn are custom, one of a kind and in Ruby's style.
  • Ruby only ever tattoos only one person a day which allows her to dedicate her attention completely to each client and take as long as needed to ensure you love the design and that it fits and flows perfectly to your body before making it permanent (you are not charged for this time).
  • Please plan on spending the entire day at the studio regardless of how big or small your tattoo is. This helps Ruby to not feel rushed so that she can focus on creating a one of a kind piece for you that both of you are proud of.

Please keep in mind that Ruby will only ever tattoo at her very best as she respects your body and the permanence and art of tattooing. If she feels that you need to come back to finish your tattoo for whatever reason please respect her decision and boundaries.

APPLYING

If it sounds like a good fit, the next step is to send in an application. If you are a previous client, we will already have a file open for you, so you can skip submitting another application and just shoot us an email with all the details (tattoo concept, size, placement, style, availability). If this is your first time working with Ruby, please head over to our Appointment Request page to fill out a new form. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us after reviewing all the information on our site (we try to be as thorough as possible).

If your concept is chosen, you will receive an approval email with instructions on how to place your booking fee. To schedule with Ruby, a booking fee is required up front (please check our FAQ page for pricing for your city/province). All booking fees are non-refundable and will come off the cost of your tattoo at your final session. For more information on how they work, please review our policy here.

You will also be given the option to leave your booking fee on file if you wish to add on or come back for a new piece at a later date. This ensures that in the off chance that Ruby closes her books, you will still be guaranteed a spot.

Once your booking fee has been received, you will receive a confirmation that you have been placed on the waitlist. While you are waiting for your appointment, we will send you information to help you prepare for your appointment and some homework to keep you busy!

If you would like to get a head start on things (especially if this is your first tattoo), hop on over to our
Get Ready Guide, Photo Guide and Aftercare Guide to read up about how to prepare for your big day, what to expect when getting tattooed, how to take care of your beautiful new piece of art, as well as when/where/how/what is the best way to collect, store and send your measurements and inspiration material.

waitlist

With our new waitlist system, your place is secured in chronological order based on the date your booking fee was submitted. Unlike our old booking system, your booking fee will never expire.

Appointments are scheduled out one month at a time to accommodate clients with pieces currently in progress the ability to book their next session without having to wait an unreasonable amount of time. Because of this, and the possibility that any client may decide to expand upon their piece at any given time, wait times are roughly estimated to the best of our ability.

Currently, there is about a year wait in Philadelphia to get in with Ruby. If you are on the waitlist with a booking fee on file and would like to know how far down the list you are, please feel free to reach out to us and we will do our best to give you an estimated time frame.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING IN SOONER, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND JOINING THE CANCELLATION LIST, AS LAST MINUTE OPENINGS ARE MORE COMMON THAN YOU MAY THINK.
When your time arrives, we will reach out to you about a month in advance to begin choosing a date for your first tattoo appointment.

If you wish to have a consultation prior to your first session, this is the time to let us know so that we can schedule both dates at the same time. Consultations are usually scheduled about a week prior to your first session so that the ideas are still fresh in Ruby's mind for your appointment, however if you would like to schedule a consultation with Ruby prior to booking, please be sure to mention this in the Availability Notes section when submitting your request form.

About a week before the big day, you'll receive an appointment reminder containing a digital release form, studio address, parking/arrival instructions and contact information in case you are running late.
Your Day with Ruby Includes:
  • 1-on-1 video consultation (upon request)
  • An in person fine tuning consultation the morning of your appointment
  •  100% Vegan & numbing products
  • Original artwork – designed to fit your body
  • A relaxed-no rush environment, as Ruby only tattoos one person a day
  • A professional photo of your tattoo
  • *Free touch-ups
